An introduction to reflexology (zone therapy)

Reflexology is a healing modality that uses pressure applied to points on the hands and feet. It is an effective touch-based treatment that uses "reflexive" points. Over seven thousand nerve endings are addressed, in order to encourage circulation and healing to every part of the body.
The points on the feet and hands correspond to organs of the body. Stimulating the points http://yogamarrakech.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/ref lexology-foot-chart.jpg brings energy, blood flow, and healing to the body. A reflexology treatment is relaxing. The massage stimulates the nerve, blood and lymph supply to different areas of the body as well as the feet.
Reflexology maps of the points demonstrate links between body and foot, that anyone can use.
Though the exact mechanism is not known, it is thought to work via the same channels as Chinese medicine. This medical systems diagnoses via meridians, or channels, that flow through the body, carrying the life force, or "chi". Chinese medicine uses acupuncture. and Chinese herbs for treatment, and the results have been documented by Western medical research.
Practiced as far back as 1913 by medical doctor, reflexology is a type of acupressure. William Fitzgerald is credited with being the father of zone therapy, but the practice goes back to Russian, England and Germany, as well as India, Japan, and China. Some possible documentation was found in Egyptian texts, dating back over five thousand years. Numerous clinical trials have proven the efficacy of acupressure. Qualified practitioners can be found on the website of the International Academy of Advanced Reflexology.
Reflexology follows certain rules and laws. The Laws of Reflexology are as follows.
1. The law of evidence. This denotes dealing with the scientifically proven and measurable effects.
2. The law of the understood. The body has a built in self-correcting system.
3. The law of similars. Whatever is happening inside the body is identical and similar at the end of the nerves in both hands and the feet.
Reflexology can safely be used on women, men, children and the elderly. Clinical evidence has shown evidence of cures using reflexology to treat such varied ailments as Alzheimer's syndrome, cancer, amenorrhea, cerebral palsy, diabetes, pneumonia, migraine headaches, toothache, and childbirth. In fact, many laboring mothers insist on having a foot reflexologies in the delivery room to ease the pain and speed labor. It has even been used to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy in childhood leukemia.
Reflexology is a simple and effective way to increase your vital force and your well-being. For men and women, reflexology has been effective in treating impotence, infertility, and PMS. Foot reflexology can improve the quality of life of many. It is a comforting and non-invasive medical treatment that soothes, stimulates and brings healing to many areas of the body.
